Tom Daley and husband Dustin Lance Black announce birth of their first child

They've chosen a sentimental name for their newborn

Tom Daley and his husband Dustin Lance Black have announced the birth of their first child.

According to a notice in the Times, the 24-year-old Olympic diver and his 44-year-old film producer husband welcomed a baby boy on Wednesday, who they’ve named Robert Ray Black-Daley.

The name they’ve chosen is particularly sentimental, as it’s a tribute to Tom’s late father Robert, who died of a brain tumour in 2011.

The couple, who tied the knot last May, welcomed their son via a surrogate in the US.

Speaking to the Times earlier this year, Tom said, “We found an egg donor and we are the sperm donors, we have fertilised half the eggs each.”

“We put in a boy embryo and a girl embryo and we don’t know whose is whose. The next time we will do it the other way around,” hinting that they’re already planning for baby number two.

The couple chose to keep the identity of their surrogate a secret, but said that they spoke to her “every day”.

It’s expected that Tom and Dustin will raise their son in the UK.
