Pippa Middleton’s father-in-law has been charged with rape of a minor
Millionaire hotel boss David Matthews, 74,is father to James Matthews, who is married to Pippa and of course Spencer Matthews.
According to reports, David has been charged with two counts of rape of a minor.
In a statement on his behalf, a family rep said: “David Matthews categorically denies the allegation and unequivocally contests the untrue and scandalous accusation.”
The business man is alleged to have carried out the attacks on a teenage girl between 1998 and 1999. One attack in Paris and another in St Barts – where he owns a £5,000-a-night hotel.
He was seized by police from France’s child protection unit at Paris Orly Airport on Tuesday, over two historic rape allegations.
After 48 hours in custody he was later charged with the rape of minor.
The French authorities now have six months to decide if he will go to trial.
The successful businessman has already been released on bail, and comes after police investigation which began last September.
Not only is he the father to Pippa Middleton’s husband, but also Made In Chelsea star Spencer Matthews – who is welcoming his first child with Vogue Williams, with the pair set to marry.
