RTÉ Radio 1 release documentary about Belfast rape trial

The trial dominated public and private discussion earlier this year

RTÉ Radio 1 have released a documentary on the so-called ‘Belfast rape trial’, which dominated public and private discussion in Ireland earlier this year.

The trial led to widespread media coverage, social media comment and street protests, as the four defendants were found not guilty on all charges.

Two of the defendants, ex-Ulster and Ireland rugby players Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding, were found not guilty of raping a female student at a house party in June 2016.

The documentary, dubbed ‘Notes From A Belfast Rape Trial’, features the two leading barristers in the case – Toby Hedworth QC for the Prosecution, and Brendan Kelly QC for Paddy Jackson.

The documentary makers have warned that it’s “difficult listen”, as the listener is put in the position of the jury, and will hear some graphic testimony

The documentary is available now on RTÉ’s website, and it will be broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1 at 2pm on Saturday, November 24th.
