Ray D'Arcy: 'People think you're special if you're on TV – there's nothing special about it'

Ray D’Arcy has insisted that there’s nothing special about anybody on TV.

While famous faces on the small screen may be treated to the perks of fame and celebrity – the broadcasting legend doesn’t buy into the showbiz hype.

“The relationship you have with people when you’re on the radio is a bit more intimate,” he said.

“Maybe it’s because people think than when you’re on TV there’s something special about you but there’s nothing special about anybody.”

“We all carry around a pound of s***e, as somebody said to me once,” he told the Sunday World.

Ray is gearing up for his return to TV with his new chat show on RTE and admitted he couldn’t have done it without his wife Jenny.

“Definitely a big part of coming back to RTE was trying to convince her to come with me,” he said.

“I said to her at one stage: ‘I can’t do it without you’, which is very true.”

“I’m nearly crying here because I’ve never said it before, but she’s always looking out for me, she has my back.”
