Donald Trump touched down in Shannon Airport this evening, marking his first visit to Ireland since become the President of the United States.

Shortly after landing, Trump was greeted by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, and the pair held a joint press conference – and one particular comment Trump made has ruffled a lot of feathers.

While discussing Brexit and the affect it will have on Ireland, Donald compared the post-Brexit Irish border with his own planned wall for the US border with Mexico.

He said: “I think it will all work out very well. Also for you with your wall, your border.”

“We have a border situation in the United States, and you have a border over here, but I hear it’s going to work out… it’s going to work out very well here,” he said.

Naturally, Trump’s comments caused a stir on Twitter. See how people are reacting below:

Trump and his family will stay at his Doonbeg resort tonight, before heading to France for D-Day events tomorrow.

On Thursday night, the US President will once again stay at his hotel in Co. Clare, before leaving Ireland on Friday.
