Irish actresses Saoirse Ronan and Jessie Buckley to go head to head for BAFTA

Irish actresses Saoirse Ronan and Jessie Buckley are set to go head to head for a BAFTA after both were nominated for Best Leading Actress.

Saoirse was nominated for her role in Little Women, and Jessie for her role in Wild Rose.

Florence Pugh, who also starred in Little Women was nominated for a BAFTA in the Best Supporting Actress category for her portrayal of Amy March.

Saoirse narrowly missed out on a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Josephine March in the adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel, but she has also been tipped for an Oscar nomination.

Wild Rose debuted at Toronto Film Festival in 2018, but was released in theatres in April 2019.

30-year-old Jessie from Killarney has also starred in Judy alongside Renee Zellweger, and hit HBO show Chernobyl.

Joker led BAFTA nominations with 11, followed by 10 for The Irishman and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.

The awards show takes place on February 2nd.
