Graham Norton blasts greedy rich stars who avoid paying their tax

TV star Graham Norton has slammed greedy stars who avoid paying tax – despite being more and rich enough to do so.

The BBC chat show host is annoyed that rich celebrities go to the end of the earth to avoid paying what they owe.

And Cork native Graham says it should be a “privilege” to be able to pay tax.

He said: “If you don’t have kids, what is going on in your head? Because the people who need the tax-avoidance schemes are nurses and teachers.

Privilege: Graham thinks stars should be happy to pay tax | BBC

“I can afford to pay my tax. You read about these people and you think, ‘Why did you do that? You’d have still been rich!

“Just not as rich. Being able to pay your tax, it’s a privilege. I’m in a position where I can pay this money.”

The ex-Father Ted star says the only reason he can understand someone trying to shirk their tax is if they have kids – although still doesn’t agree with it.

“The only thing I can think of is if you’ve got kids. If you’ve got kids …I don’t agree with it,” he told the Times.

“But I can sort of understand the impulse that you want to leave them as much as possible. You want to save as much as possible for them.”
