RTE legend Anne Doyle has revealed she was “hugely touched” when Aengus Mac Grianna asked her to give him away at his wedding.
The former news reader will play a central part in the Celebrity Masterchef star’s wedding to partner Terry Gill.
She said: “I was absolutely thrilled Aengus asked me to give him away. This goes all the way back to when he came into RTE as a student and we instantly became firm friends.
“I knew straight away he had real potential. He was a very charming, bright young man and he’s done extremely well.

“It’s wonderful now, all these years later, he’s asked me to play such an important role in himself and Terry’s big day.”
However ex-Six One anchor Anne told the Irish Sun she plans to lose a stone before the 49-year-old’s humanist ceremony next month in Ballymagarvey, Co Meath.
Following the wedding, Aengus and Terry will fly to London to file their marriage paperwork as they aren’t happy with how far Ireland’s Civil Partnership legislation goes.
He added: “I’m not free here to marry the person I love, the person I want to marry and commit to and spend the rest of my life with.”
Aengus – best known for his RTE news bloopers – has been in a relationship with Terry, 39, for ten years.
