Aidan Turner: ‘Dating a girl not in this industry – that’s what turns me on’

Aidan Turner has revealed he would love to date a girl outside of the industry.

The Poldark star, who split with long term girlfriend Sarah Greene last November, has admitted dating a fellow actor can be difficult.

The Dublin actor admitted he can find dating an actress quite “dull” and is “turned on” by girls who have nothing to do with his industry.

“I’ve been in that world before where you’re with someone who does the same thing and it can be quite difficult sometimes because that’s all you are,” he told the Sun.

“You go home and talk about casting directors, the press and the next job and it becomes quite dull.

“There’s nothing like going out with someone who just doesn’t care about what you’re doing, let alone has anything to say about it. That’s what turns me on.”

Before dating Sarah, Aidan had dated Ripper Street actress Charlene McKenna.

Aidan, 33, admitted that while he doesn’t believe in soul mates he does believe in love.

Love: Aidan doesn’t believe in soulmates | BBC

“I don’t know if I believe so much in the whole soulmate thing. I think you can find someone you love your entire life and still feel that love decades later,” he explained.

“But I also think it can be unhealthy to rely on someone so much. What if you have a soulmate and then you lose them or what if you have them and for whatever reason they want to lose you?

“I’m not saying I’m not romantic, but in my opinion, I think the whole soulmate thing can be a bit of an empty vessel,” he added.

Meanwhile Aidan said he is more focused on his work than living a celebrity lifestyle.

“When there’s celebrity, it’s very easy to slip into that, being followed in night clubs, dating famous people or getting adverts.

“I’m just not interested in any of that stuff. The work is what interests me and what I want to do and I want to do good work,” he admitted.

“The reason I got into the business was not for celebrity and it wasn’t for money.

“I have a huge adoration of film, stories and theatre and that’s why I do it,” he added.

High life: Aidan admitted celeb life has its perks

But Aidan admitted the celebrity lifestyle can have it’s perks.

“It can be fun. Like a few weeks ago I was at Wimbledon and I found myself sitting beside Stanley Tucci and Bear Grylls, wearing a nice suit that someone gave me.

“Days like that are fun, but I thank God they are few and far between. I like to keep my feet on the ground,” he said.
