It’s been ten years since Heath Ledger was found dead due to an accidental overdose in his apartment in Manhattan.

Stars have come out publicly on social media to remember the actor, including his ex Michelle Williams, Busy Philipps, Naomi Watts, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Busy Philipps hopped on a plane to be with best friend Michelle Williams on the 10-year anniversary of Heath’s death.

On Monday evening, Busy shared a selfie with Michelle with the simple caption, “It’s ok.”

Michelle and Heath dated after meeting on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2004. The pair welcomed daughter Matilda (now 12) in October 2005, but sadly separated in September 2007.

In tearful videos posted to her Instagram story on Monday, Busy, who is also Matilda’s godmother, expressed her grief while driving in her car as the song Time to Pretend by MGMT played on the radio.

“I was just driving and I was thinking about my friend Heath who died 10 years ago and this song came on, ‘Time to Pretend,’” she said in one of the videos.

“It came out after he passed away and I remember when it came out, because [I thought] it made me think of him. I just thought he would have liked this song. And for some reason, every time I hear this song… it’s weird.”

Matilda’s godfather Jake Gyllenhaal, who was a dear friend of Heath’s, also paid tribute to the actor on the 10th anniversary of his death.

“Friendship can’t be explained in a sound bite or can it in three-minute interview and those who can do it I find sort of odd. I happen to not be one of those people,” Jake told E! News while attending the premiere of his film Wildlife at the Sundance Film Festival.

“I think Heath meant a lot to a lot of people, the people who were fans and the people who saw his work and were moved by his work and the people who knew him as a person. He was just an incredible force and is still missed.”

Naomi Watts, who dated Heath from 2002 to 2004, also took to Instagram on Monday to pay tribute to him.

Along with a photo of Heath, Naomi wrote, “Thinking about this beautiful soul today. 10 years ago he left this world.”

“He was a true original. Heart always on his sleeve, with the most powerful charisma, strength, humor and talent. I will never forget his gentle spirit.”
