Ronan Keating on a Boyzone and Westlife supergroup: 'Never say never'

Ronan Keating has revealed that he would “never say never” to Boyzone teaming up with Westlife to create the ultimate Irish boyband, but it won’t be happening anytime soon.

The Dublin native, who is currently promoting his second solo album Time Of My Life, admitted that it would be fun to create a supergroup with the Westlife boys, and that the idea has been thrown around before.

“The idea’s been thrown around all right. Different collaborations,” he said.

“Not just Westlife, but Girls Aloud and lots of different collaborations. I don’t know. Maybe, maybe. Never say never to those sort of things.

“We’ll see. Not right now, but maybe, maybe we would. It’d be cool fun I think to do something like that, definitely,” he told the Press Association.

The supergroup has become something of a trend lately with boybands Busted and McFly joining forces to form McBusted.

One band member who most definitely wants the Boyzone/Westlife collaboration to happen is Shane Lynch.

Shane has previously stirred the rumours pot back in October when he posted a picture of the two famous bands on Instagram with a caption suggesting that it was time they joined forces for “one of the biggest” tours.

Adding more fuel to the fire, Shane tweeted just last month another picture of the two bands – causing fans once again to go into overdrive.

Supergroup possibilites aside, Ronan, who is gearing up for his solo UK and Ireland tour, admitted he misses having his Boyzone bandmates on tour.

“I miss the lads at times, definitely… Next year marks our 25 years so we’ll do something next year, please God,” Ronan admitted.

“We’re not really sure yet. I mean, we’re looking at different ideas whether it’s an album or a tour, or what it’s going to be, but we’ll definitely mark it somehow and it’ll be a Boyzone extravaganza as per usual.”

Ronan’s new album Time Of My Life is set for release this Friday, February 12.
