Red Rock gains interest from US broadcaster

American audiences could be introduced to the gritty drama of TV3’s Red Rock – after a US broadcaster expressed interest in the series.

TV3 representatives have been pitching home-grown shows to TV companies at the MIPCOM conference in Cannes, France this week.

“It’s the conference where The Lie was bought by a TV company last year. Broadcasters all over the world are always seeking new content,” a source said.

International: A US broadcaster is interested in Red Rock

“Red Rock has captured the imagination of an American broadcaster,” they told The Star.

“Obviously, it’s in the very early stages and no decision has been made – but it’s a great sign.”

The soap debuted to impressive audiences of 323,000 in January, however viewership has been steadily declining ever since.

By week three, the series had already lost half of its audience and was down to 162,000 viewers.

However,a TV3 spokeswoman insisted Red Rock was launched in an era of “Netflix-style viewing habits”.

“The audience are going out of their way to watch it on playback, or on demand or recording it. They are watching, they are just not watching on the night.”
