Marty Whelan wants to take over from Tubridy on Late Late Show

RTE star Marty Whelan has admitted he’d love to boost his career by bagging his own chat show.

And the Winning Streak presenter would be willing to give up his family for the chance of taking on the Late Late Show.

He said: “I’d love a chat show. I’ve done a lot of that anyway over the years.

“I don’t think anyone in our business should be prepared to say they wouldn’t take on the Late Late Show if they felt they had some capability.

“The thing is, are you able to deal with who the guests are, whether they’re serious or not?

“But Friday night, how much fun would that be? I’d never see my family.”

And Marty, 58, said he feels lucky to still have a career in broadcasting.

“This is what I love to do. I’m not trained for anything else,” he said.

“A lot of colleagues have come and gone and here I am, but it’s good to be still doing it.”
