Taoiseach Leo Varadkar among mourners at Marian Finucane’s funeral

The broadcaster will be laid to rest today

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is among mourners at Marian Finucane’s funeral today.

The RTÉ host, who died suddenly last Thursday aged 69, will be laid to rest during a private burial today following her funeral at St. Brigid’s Church in Kill, Co. Kildare.

RTÉ News Now are currently airing live coverage of the funeral, and during the service, Marion was described as an “icon of Irish broadcasting.”

President Michael D. Higgins was unable to attend the service, but Ireland’s Taoiseach turned out to pay his respects alongside hundreds of mourners.

Marian worked for RTÉ for over 40 years, and presented The Marian Finucane Show, a popular weekend current affairs radio programme, on RTÉ Radio 1.

Today is a particularly sad days for those in RTÉ, as the station confirmed the death of legendary broadcaster Larry Gogan this morning.
