RTÉ 2FM have snubbed The 2 Johnnies following their shock exit from the station.
The comedy duo announced that their radio show Drive It with The 2 Johnnies would come to an end on May 31st.
Last week, their new album, Small Town Heroes, reached the number-one spot on the Irish charts.
However, despite reaching the top spot on the charts the pair have yet to receive a play of one of their tracks from the album on their previous station.
A source told The Sun: “It really says something about 2FM when an act can hit No1 in Ireland without getting a single play on the station the week it happens.”
“The 2 Johnnies are acknowledged as the voice of young Ireland. So if 2FM was serious about appealing to its 18 to 35-year-old target audience it would be playing their album.”
“It’s not as if RTE aren’t sure if their listeners like The 2 Johnnies — Drive It with The 2 Johnnies was the most popular show on 2FM.”
The news of their departure from 2FM shocked fans of the popular duo who have sold out the 3Arena in the past 12 months, thanks to their hugely popular podcast series.
Johnny Smacks and Johnny B took over the show replacing DJ Jenny Greene in 2022.
However, like Doireann Garrihy, who also left last month, the pair also had a successful podcast on the side as well as other commercial deals.
Their most successful feat as of late is their album reaching the number-one spot on the charts.
Sharing their delight on Instagram, the duo wrote: “Number 1 album in Ireland 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻”
“Thanks to ye all for yer support. Tisnt often a culchie act get to the top of the charts. Start the mixer, the boom is back.”
“Gonna be a wild weekend for Pints In A Field 2 tomorrow in Dublin,” they added.
The album which was released on May 31, hit the top of the Irish Charts, ahead of huge stars Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish.
Their album is also the biggest-selling Irish album of the year so far.
To celebrate the launch of their album, the 2 Johnnies spent the last week meeting fans and performing at record stores around the country.
This includes a performance on Galway’s Shop Street which they brought to a standstill on Saturday.
Speaking about the album going straight in at number one Johnny B said: “This is up there with managing Cahir to win the South Junior B Hurling title as the best day of my life. I’ve been writing and singing songs since I was 3 years old, this album has been a lifetime in the making.”
“We can’t thank people enough for the support they’ve shown us. Not too many culchie bands get a number 1 album. Been playing gigs round the town since I was 14, so proud to be able to bring one home to the town, feels like we’ve won a county final. Start the mixer, the boom is back,” he said.
Johnny Smacks said: “What a day for the parish! To all the small town heroes who bought this album, this one is for ye, real tunes for real people. Bonfires will be burning around Cahir this weekend!”
