Markus Feehily has revealed that he got “messed around” while being on the dating scene.
The former Westlife star split from his fiance Kevin McDaid three years ago and has now admitted that he didn’t enjoy being single.
Although he has since found love again, the Sligo native has painful memories of struggling to adapt to the modern gay scene.

“When I was with Westlife, I couldn’t go down to the pub and meet a guy or whatever,” he said.
“There was no Grindr, and even if there was, I wouldn’t have been on it.”
“After Kevin and I split up, I was too scared to be on Grindr. I’m not one of those people people that would frown upon Grindr at all, but your man from Westlife is turning up on it?”
Markus divulged that he discovered that there were a lot of “dark things” happening on the singles scene.

“I got a bit kind of messed around in the single world,” he told Gay Community News.
“Maybe just because I had never seen it before.”
“It was my first time in the single world as an out guy, and there were a lot of dark things happening.”

The singer’s negative experiences with dating have become the inspiration for his new album.
“I just went into the studio and wrote down how I was feeling” he explained.
“Love Me Or Leave Me Alone is literally about somebody who just wouldn’t commit, who was messing me around.”
