Joe Duffy gearing up for next year’s Dancing With The Stars

Joe Duffy is gearing up for next year’s season of Dancing With The Stars, after previously turning down offers from producers.

The 61-year-old admitted that he would “definitely consider” appearing on the hit RTÉ show in 2018.

“I would consider it because Dancing with the Stars looks like great craic and has a great atmosphere about it. I would definitely consider it but we will have to wait and see.

“I was approached for the first season of Dancing with the Stars but the filming commitments I had for Liveline: Call Back just made it impossible but I might consider it next year,” he told the Irish Sun.

Although Joe is keen to put his dancing shoes on, it all depends on his schedule as DWTS requires a minimum of 12 hours rehearsals a week for a 12-week run.

“Everything depends on my radio programme. Doing Liveline is my life and it’s 75 minutes of live radio which goes out every day.

“I can’t stress enough the radio show is my priority. I have to work out if I can fit something else into my schedule, and I’m writing another book as well,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Joe’s pal and Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy has backed the veteran broadcaster to take part in the show.

“I wouldn’t rule him out as a contender for Dancing with the Stars. Joe is very dapper, he has the hat and the coat and dresses extremely well.

“I have never seen Joe on a dancefloor but I would like to. I think Joe would rock the sequins, I’d tune in,” he added.

Producers are already lining up potential celebrity contestants for next year’s DWTS, after the show went down a hit with viewers in it’s first year on air.

Dancing With The Stars drew an average of 575,000 and a 40 per cent audience share over 11 episodes.

DWTS producer Larry Bass said, “We have had celebrity shows in Ireland but nothing has impacted or touched a nation as big as this one.”
