EXCLUSIVE! Eoin Macken: 'I'm definitely turning my novel into a film – but I WON'T be in it'

Irish actor Eoin Macken has revealed he is set to turn his debut novel into a feature film.

The Dubliner who came to fame in BBC show Merlin, has officially launched his book Kingdom of Scars, and he’s eager to make it into a movie.

But despite his international success Eoin said he has no interest in starring in the film version.

“I’m definitely going to make it into a film, it just depends on when. I can’t play the lead character because he’s 15,” he told Goss.ie.

“I’m not going to be in it though, I’m just going to direct. I would obviously have a hand in casting.

“I’ll definitely be shooting it in Ireland. This is part of why I wrote the book, I wanted to make it into a film and make it here in Ireland,” he said.

Speaking at the launch of his first book, Eoin said it felt strange seeing so many people buy the novel.

“It feels surreal, it’s surreal that people are buying something that I love and enjoying it.”

“I was just writing it to write, I never expected to have it in a book. It’s all a bit surreal,” he said.

Stars of the acting world came out in support of the star, including Love/Hate actor Chris Newman and Fair City star George McMahon.

While all eyes were on Kingdom of Scars last night, Eoin revealed he is headed back to the US this month to begin filming season two of NBC show The Night Shift.

“The Night Shift starts filming again in two weeks so I’ll be gone again for six months,” he told Goss.ie.

“We shoot the whole series in Albuquerque, New Mexico, it’s like Breaking Bad basically. It’s shot in the same place.

“People seem to really like the show. The army vets have all taken to it, so the fact that they like it is a huge compliment,” he said.

While US fans have taken to the show, Irish viewers will finally get a chance to see Eoin in the series when it airs on RTE this January.

“It’s coming to RTE in January, I’m actually more nervous about it being on in Ireland. All Irish people will be watching it now so it will be weird,” he admitted.
