Matthew Perry stopped his character Chandler Bing from cheating on Monica Gellar, played by Courteney Cox, in Friends.
Following the news of his tragic passing, an actress has revealed how the actor convinced writers to change the storyline over fears fan would “never forgive” his character.
Lisa Cash, who was due to play the woman Chandler was supposed to cheat with, has claimed Matthew couldn’t go through with the scene, which was supposed to appear in the episode entitled The One in Vegas: Part I.
The axed scene was set to star Lisa as a Las Vegas hotel worker, who brought room service to Chandler’s hotel room.
Upset that Monica went for lunch with her ex-boyfriend, the script had Chandler pouring his heart out to the hotel worker, before sleeping with her.
The actress told NBC News that she rehearsed for two days for the part, before Matthew got cold feet.
“We had rehearsed it and everything, and then the day before we were shooting in front of a live audience I was told Chandler went to the writers and said the audience will never forgive him for cheating on Monica,” she said.
Lisa said the scene could have potentially altered the events of Friends, and insisted it would have been even bigger than Ross and Rachel’s “we were on a break” ordeal.
“The Ross and Rachel thing, ‘They were on a break’, but this wouldn’t have been on a break.”
“This would have been a decision he would have made while they were together.”
“I think it would have really changed how the audience would have (viewed) Chandler and that whole thing. I don’t know if they could have survived it,” the actress added.

The guest star went on to feature as a flight attendant in the same episode.
The news comes after Matthew tragically passed away at his home in LA on October 28th.
The 54-year-old was found dead at his home, following an apparent drowning.
The Friends star’s private funeral was held at the Forest Lawn Church of the Hills in LA, where his co-stars were in attendance, as well as Matthew’s family and close friends.
