Miley Cyrus has revealed when she knew her marriage to Liam Hemsworth was “no longer going to work”.
The former couple struck up a romance after meeting on the set of the film The Last Song in 2008.
The former Disney Channel star and the Australian actress got engaged in 2012, before briefly splitting the following year.
They then reunited in 2015, got married in December 2018, before calling it quits for good in August 2019.
Miley and Liam finalised their divorce in January 2020.
In the latest installment of her ‘Used To Be Young’ TikTok series, Miley candidly revealed she realised it was time to end her eight-month marriage while at the 2019 Glastonbury music festival.
The 30-year-old said: “So Glastonbury was in June, which was when the decision had been made that me and Liam’s commitment to be married just really came from—a place of love first, because we’ve been together for 10 years—but also from a place of trauma and just trying to rebuild as quickly as we could.”
Miley, who performed at the festival on June 30 that year, explained: “The day of the show was the day that I had decided that it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship.”
“So that was another moment where the work, the performance, the character came first. I guess that’s why it’s now so important to me for that not to be the case. The human comes first.”
Since Miley and Liam parted ways, the former couple have kept the details of their split out of the spotlight.
However, the songstress admitted she will “always” love her ex-husband during an episode of Barstool Sports in 2020.
Miley said: “I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will.”
Despite there being a lot of love between them, Miley acknowledged that “there was too much conflict” in their relationship, which eventually led to their split.
She said: “When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone. I don’t get off on drama or fighting.”
Following their split in 2019, Miley briefly dated Kaitlynn Carter, before she moved on with Cody Simpson.
Miley and Cody called it quits in August 2020 after almost a year of dating, and the Wrecking Ball singer is now dating Liily drummer Maxx Morando.
Meanwhile, Liam has been in a relationship with Aussie model Gabriella Brooks for over three years.
