Demi Lovato reveals how her battle with mental health has made her a role model

The singer's addiction and mental illness helped her become a role model

Demi Lovato has revealed how her battle with mental illness and addiction has helped her connect with fans.

In the October issue of Notion Magazine, the singer reveals how her struggle with mental illness and drug addiction shaped her into a role model for her followers.

“My fans have been able to relate and look at [me] and say, ‘If she can get through it, I can too,’ she said.

“I needed that growing up, and having that positive response to just being open and honest is really rewarding.”

In the magazine shoot, Demi shows off her glowing skin with a slicked back hair style and an off the shoulder chunky knit jumper.

Demi has been named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People for her ability to connect with her fans through her personal ups and downs.

The Sorry Not Sorry singer notably took advantage of her following on social media by donating $250,000 towards Kesha’s legal fees against Dr. Luke.

Demi has also used social media to call out fellow celebrities, such as Taylor Swift, for not speaking out during Kesha’s case against Dr. Luke.

“Fame is weird, but I manipulate it for the better,”she said. “I see some artists that don’t say anything because they want to be politically correct.”

The pop star checked herself into rehab back in 2010 for her drug and alcohol addiction, after hitting a dancer on her tour with the Jonas Brothers.

Since rehab, the singer has toured with friend Nick Jonas and brought out some incredible music worldwide.

Her sixth studio album, Tell Me You Love Me, was just released last month on the 28th of September.
