Britney Spears fans react to her first new music in six years

Britney is back!

On Friday morning, Britney Spears fans rejoiced as the singer released her first music in six years.

The pop star, 40, collaborated with music legend Elton John for the catchy dance track Hold Me Closer.

The track, which was produced by Andrew Watt, uses Elton’s 1971 hit Tiny Dancer as the skeleton and adds elements from his songs The One and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.

Speaking about his collab with Britney, Elton said: “She truly is an icon, one of the all-time great pop stars and she sounds amazing on this record. I love her dearly and am delighted with what we’ve created together.”

Britney added of the duet: “I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to work with you and your legendary mind.”

Hold Me Closer has already reached #1 on iTunes in the US and UK, and fans have been reacting to the song on Twitter.

One wrote: “I am equal parts shaking my ass & crying to Hold Me Closer. What a beautiful thing Elton is doing, and what a gift to have Britney back on such a joyous, nostalgic record. One of 2022’s great pop music moments.”

Another tweeted: “no but Hold Me Closer NEEDS to be a hit! we NEED to help remind Britney Spears of who she is and what she has done for pop music and so many of us around the world.. this makes me so emotional.”
