Saoirse Ronan reveals she learned how to speak in an American accent by watching Seinfield

Saoirse Ronan has admitted she taught herself how to speak with an American accent from watching Seinfeld.

The Carlow native is known for her talent with accents and it turns out watching lots of TV does the trick.

“I grew up with American TV shows. I think kids really pick up on their environment and what’s going on in their environment,” she said.

“Kids are real sponges, and I guess I did grow up with things like Seinfeld and The Three Amigos, and lots of American comedy, so those sounds were just always kind of around.”

Saoirse’s family regularly played around with different accents when she was growing up and it looks like the family gift rubbed off on the film star.

“I guess my ears were just open to them… [my family] always uses accents when we’re joking around,” she told Yahoo.

“That was always a very natural way for me to express myself, and I still do that now.”

The Lovely Bones star also revealed she would love the chance to star in an American TV series.

“I’d like to do a limited-run series. I love True Detective. And I just watched Bloodline on Netflix… Oh, my God. It’s bloody brilliant. It’s so good,” she admitted.

“I think it’s the best ensemble cast I’ve seen in a show. So yeah, I’d love to do something like that. I just think the quality is so high, I would be a fool if something great came up, not to do it.”
