Liam Cunningham hits out at the Web Summit scandal: 'It's a disgrace'

Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham has slammed the government for losing the Web Summit to Lisbon.

The world recognised tech conference attracts over 30,000 visitors to the Emerald Isle and announced last month that it will move to the Portuguese capital as governments officials were more accommodating than Ireland’s own.

Speaking to Goss.ie at the Web Summit, the Dubliner insisted the move is an “embarrassment” and “disgrace”.

“I think it’s a disgrace that something this clever and wonderful has been lost by people who probably don’t know how to turn on a mobile phone,” he said.

I think it’s an embarrassment and it shouldn’t of happened. The spin that the boys in Leinster House have put in it was disgraceful as well.

“They tried to sell the loss of this as a success story, I don’t think so, I don’t think they’re fooling anyone,” he added.

Meanwhile, the HBO star revealed that he’s been enjoying his first time to the tech conference – admitting he’s going to bring his daughter.

“It’s the first time, I’ve been at it, it’s great,” he told Goss.ie.

“My daughter does game design and I’m going to try and lift her out of college and drag her down to this.

“I’m going to have a little look around but it’s the first time I’ve ever made it here,” he added.
