Nicola Coughlan has hit back at online trolls claiming she’s “photoshopped” in the new season of Bridgerton.
The Irish actress plays Penelope Featherington in the hit Netflix series, which has propelled her to worldwide stardom.
The show’s third season focuses on Penelope’s romance with Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton, and the pair appear in some steamy scenes together.
While Nicola has been inundated with supportive comments since the new season aired, she’s also been subject to comments about her body.
Speaking to People magazine, the Galway native confessed her Regency-era costumes have lead people to believe her body has been edited in the show.
She said: “I saw some trolls. They were like, ‘They photoshopped your waist,’ and I was like, ‘No, they did not.’
“I think if you wear corsetry for long enough, your body really molds to it,” Nicola explained.
“Sometimes they come in a fitting for a fashion designer and they put a corset on me and I’m like, ‘Oh, you can go tight,’ and they go, ‘What do you mean?’ I’m like, ‘My body now will go whew.’
Part 2 of Bridgerton’s third season is now streaming on Netflix.
