Ariana Grande has poured her heart out in a brand new song, titled ‘thank u, next’.
The song was released on Saturday night, and it directly references her ex-fiancé Pete Davidson, as well as her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller – who passed away in September.
In the song, Ariana sings, “Now I listen and laugh / Even almost got married / And for Pete, I’m so thankful / Wish I could say, ‘Thank you’ to Malcolm / ‘Cause he was an angel.”
“One taught me love / One taught me patience / One taught me pain / Now, I’m so amazing / I’ve loved and I’ve lost.”
In conclusion, the song is less of a “diss track” towards Pete, but points out that their whirlwind romance was a huge learning experience for her.
Confirming that she’s focusing on herself now, the singer hints that she’s met someone new, before adding, “Her name is Ari / And I’m so good with that.”
The singer has since explained on Twitter that the new song is about “a new chapter” that encompasses “gratitude, growth, embracing our paths bumps n all.”
The song’s release comes after Ariana appeared to hit out at Pete, after he joked about their engagement in a promo for SNL alongside this week’s host Jonah Hill, and musical guest Maggie Rogers.
Afterwards, the 25-year-old tweeted, “For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh,” before adding, “Thank u, next.”
Ariana called off her engagement to Pete on October 14, following their whirlwind summer romance.
