Amy Hart opens up about how anxiety made her ‘control food’ in the Love Island villa

Love Island star Amy Hart revealed that she began to constrict her eating after struggling in the Love island villa.

The TV personality explained that her anxiety has previously caused her to manage her food intake as a way of maintaining control of her situation.

Amy revealed that ITV stepped in immediately in the villa after it was noticed that she wasn’t eating after being dumped by Curtis Pritchard.

She explained that she faced the issues in the past while working as an air steward for British Airways.

“My previous anxiety issues manifested within food,” she said, in a mental health awareness video. “I would be obsessed with food.”

“I would order the biggest dinner you’ve ever seen and take one bite and start shaking, crying and saying I can’t eat this anymore,” she confessed.

“I felt like I wasn’t in control of the rest of my life – I was convinced I was going to get sacked, so food was my control thing.”

“When Curtis and I ended things, I wasn’t hungry and I don’t know whether that was the same thing, like I wasn’t in control of that situation so then I wanted to control my (diet) again.”

Amy detailed how hands on the care was by the built-in Love Island welfare team.

“The welfare girl came in every single lunchtime apart from one day a week to check how much water we were having, how much we’d eaten and how we were.”

“And when it all went tits up for me and I was lying in bed crying at lunchtime, she would get into bed with me and just stroke my head and talk to me, and now I speak to her on the phone twice a week to check how I am.”

Amy discussed her anxiety issues with Heat for its Where’s Your Head At? campaign to raise awareness for mental health issues.
