U.S. Senator John McCain has passed away at the age of 81 having battled brain cancer.
A sstement from his office confirmed the news stating, “Senator John Sidney McCain III died at 4:28pm on August 25, 2018.”
“With the Senator when he passed were his wife Cindy and their family.”
“At his death, he had served the United States of America faithfully for sixty years.”

His daughter Meghan took to Twitter to mourn her dad, “My father, United States Senator John Sidney McCain iii departed this life today.”
“I was with my father at his end, as he was with me at my beginning.”
“In the The thirty-three years we shared together, he raised me, taught me, corrected me, comforted me, encouraged me, and supported me in all things.”
“He loved me, and I love him. He taught me how to live.”
“His love and his care, ever present, always unfailing, took me from a girl to a woman- and he showed me what it is to be a man.”

Obama, who ran against him in the 2008 presidential election, shared a lengthy statement about his esteemed contemporary saying, “Few of us have been tested the way John once was, or required to show the kind of courage that he did but all of us can aspire to the courage to put the greater good above our own.”
“At John’s best, he showed us what that means. And for that, we are all in his debt.”
Trump only tweeted sympathies to McCain’s family and did not mention his achievements, and it is reported by the New York Times that Trump was not invited to his funeral but Mike Pence was.
He tweeted, “My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!”

Upon hearing the news of his passing Hillary Clinton tweeted about him saying, “He was a tough politician, a trusted colleague, and there will simply never be another like him.”
He requested George Bush and Barack Obama give the eulogies at his funeral.

Celebrities also took to social media to pay tribute to him following when the news of his passing broke.
Khloe Kardashian, Ashton Kutcher and Jimmy Kimmel were among the first prominent celebritie to post their condolences on Twitter.
