{"id":99246,"date":"2017-02-25T08:38:56","date_gmt":"2017-02-25T08:38:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/138.68.162.213\/?p=99246"},"modified":"2017-02-26T03:30:03","modified_gmt":"2017-02-26T03:30:03","slug":"watch-father-bride-star-martin-short-talks-irish-heritage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goss.ie\/showbiz\/watch-father-bride-star-martin-short-talks-irish-heritage-99246","title":{"rendered":"WATCH: Father of the Bride star Martin Short talks about his Irish heritage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>He was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, but Martin Short is extremely proud of his Irish heritage.<\/p>\n<p>The comedian discussed his Irish roots with LAgoss.com at the Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday night, where he was being honoured.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My father was born and raised in\u00a0Crossmaglen, County Armagh, one of 11,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And one went to Birmingham, England, my uncle Frank, and his daughter became Secretary of State, Clare Short.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L62uOfSWkTA?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One went to New York and then I&#8217;ve got cousins who talk like they are from Brooklyn,&#8221; he added, putting on an accent, &#8220;And the rest all stayed in Crossmaglen, and my father went to Canada.<\/p>\n<p>In fact it was his late father&#8217;s love of movies that inspired Martin to get into acting in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He loved all John Ford films: The Quiet Man, The Informer. Anything that made Ireland look fabulous and was critical of England, that&#8217;s where he went,&#8221; the actor\u00a0joked.<\/p>\n<p>The funnyman, known for his roles in Father of the Bride and The Three Amigos, called receiving the Oscar Wilde Award &#8220;the greatest moment of my life&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Martin teased:\u00a0&#8220;I have three children, but I don&#8217;t care about them tonight.
