Aidan Turner has revealed a rape scene was dropped from Poldark – to keep the character loved by fans.<\/p>\n

The Dublin actor admitted that Ross Poldark was meant to “rape” his former love Elizabeth – but instead BBC replaced the scene with a consensual act.<\/p>\n

“It seems consensual, and it just seems right,” he said.<\/p>\n

“He goes to talk. He doesn\u2019t go to commit a crime.<\/p>\n

“They talk and it seems like there is still this spark between them, this unfinished business emotionally.<\/p>\n

“Certainly, that\u2019s how Ross feels. He doesn\u2019t force himself upon her,” he\u00a0told The Sun.<\/p>\n

The shocking scene does\u00a0take place in the third book which the series is based on.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth tells Poldark that he treats her “like a sl*t” and Poldark tells her she needs to be treated that way before forcing himself upon her.<\/p>\n

A TV source revealed that series producers changed the plot so Aidan’s character would still be adored by fans.<\/p>\n

“Ross is a hero and times have changed since the 1950s and 1970s.<\/p>\n
