WATCH: Johnny Logan opens up about what Ireland needs to do to win the Eurovision

Eurovision legend Johnny Logan has revealed what Ireland needs to do to win the coveted song contest.

The iconic singer, who won the famed competition twice for the Emerald Isle, believes the secret lies taking the contest seriously.

“Exactly what you did last year. Find a good singer with a good song and a good performer. There was nothing wrong with the song we sent last year,” he told Goss.ie.

“You know the think is, it’s out there the song is out there, the performers there in Ireland, stop trying to send people who can’t sing first of all and treating it like an X Factor or a popstars – take it a bit more seriously.

“Do a proper national song contest, not a guest spot on the Late Late [Show] and put a bit of thought into it, shoot a few people in the background that are behind the contest and bring in a whole new generation,” he added.

Speaking to Goss.ie at the launch of the first ever Proms on the Pier in Dun Laoghaire, Johnny admitted he’ll be making his appearance a family affair.

“It’s an opportunity to work in Ireland, they don’t come to me that often,” he revealed.

“Also my youngest son has just qualified from BIMM, he’s got his degree in music, so he’s going to be on stage with me and my older brother Michael, is coming in from Manchester so he’ll be with me so it’s kind of a family event.”

Proms on the Pier takes place on the 29th and 30th August, in Dun Laoghaire – for more information visit promsonthepier.ie .
