RTÉ’s Rebellion brings in over 600,000 viewers

RTÉ’s new 1916 drama Rebellion has got off to a smashing start in the ratings.

An average of 619,000 people tuned in for the first episode on Sunday night, with the show taking over the original Love/Hate time slot.

RTÉ have revealed an additional 45,000 watched the first episode on RTÉ One+1 with a further 9,200 watching it back on the RTÉ Player.

Viewers took to Twittertook straight to Twitter to share their love for the show, with most people loving the fact that the drama is female led.

Starring Charlie Murphy, Ruth Bradley, Sarah Greene and Brian Gleeson, the five-part series Rebellion covers the events of Easter 1916 as seen through the eyes of a group of friends from Dublin, Belfast and London as they playconflicting roles in the narrative of Ireland’s independence.

Goss.ie reported this week that the cast headed to Dublin hotspot 37 Dawson Street to catch the first episode.
