Revealed: Top Irish celebs have FAKE Twitter followers

Some Irish celebs will be upset to hear large portions of their Twitter followers are fake.

Stars like Niall Horan, Brian O’Driscoll, Amy Huberman and Georgia Salpa may have legions of fans – but some of them are Twitter ghosts.

Twitter Audit – a special computer programme that finds fake accounts discovered that several celebs fan bases aren’t as big as we thought.

More than 36 per cent of Niall’s followers are fake – meaning a whopping 8 million fake accounts following the One Direction star.

Meanwhile,  41 per cent (225,970) of rugby star Brian O’Driscoll’s followers are fake while 49 per cent of his wife Amy Huberman’s 224,000 followers are not real accounts, according to the Irish Daily Star.

Top models Georgia Salpa and Nadia Forde have also fallen victim to fake accounts with a third of Georgia’s 278,000 followers and Nadia’s 69,000 followers being bogus accounts.

However, RTE star Miriam O’Callaghan and Newstalk star George Hook have really gotten the short end of the stick with 50 per cent of Miriam’s 97,000 followers being fake and a massive 61 per cent of George’s are bots.
