Paddy McKenna only got Marty Morrissey in his music video because he was 'casually walking past'

2FM presenter Paddy McKenna has revealed he only got Marty Morrissey in his music video – because he was walking by as they filmed.

The Leitrim star – who co-hosts Weekenders with Ruth Scott – also had Larry Gogan mouthing the words to his band Storyfold’s new single Dynamo.

But Paddy told Goss.ie that it was all incredibly unexpected to get the GAA commentator and the Golden Hour host in the video, which has gone viral.

“Larry is someone who is just such a big part of 2FM, obviously, and someone you would just have such huge respect for growing up,” he said.

“And I just went over to him and said, ‘Larry, do you want to be in my new music video?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, okay.’ So I sat down with him and we started recording – it was brilliant to have him.

“Then I was out in RTE recording with another girl I knew – because I asked friends and fans on Facebook to get involved – and then Marty was just walking by here, literally just casually walking past.

“And Mary, who was recording it at the Gay Byrne statue, just said: ‘Marty, do you want to be in the video?’ I suppose Marty just looked – and I don’t think Marty says no to an awful lot of stuff.

“But he’s amazing and I love him. He came in and did his thing, and he just stayed for 10 seconds. And I got a clip out of it. He’s a great hook because everybody loves Marty and everyone loves Larry. It made the video.”

However Paddy doesn’t expect to be looking on 2FM mates Ryan Tubridy or Nicky Byrne for the next videos, adding: “I don’t know if you can top Larry and Marty. I feel like I went in too high.”
