Kodaline's Mark Prendergast: 'I got caught stealing a chicken sandwich then Gards were called'

Lead guitarist of Irish rock band Kodaline, Mark Prendergast has admitted to some very bold behaviour whilst a young school boy.

The Swords native has come clean about his former thieving ways – revealing he robbed sandwiches from his local shop.

“I got caught stealing a chicken sandwich,” Mark casually admitted.

Before frontman Steve added: “It was really weird in school we went through a habit of it, there was like a group of us, stealing stuff.”

“It wasn’t a very good habit to get into,” he said frankly to ANDPOP.

However, it wasn’t long before Mark was caught red-handed by security and the situation escalated quickly with the Gards being called.

“The security guy from the shop called the police and the police came, it was terrifying, it was a sandwich,” Mark admitted.

Speaking about how he got caught, the 26-year-old said: “It worked for months, I’d walk around the shop eating it first and they would think ‘oh he’s bought that, look he’s eating it’ then just walk out.

“But then this one guy, an under cover security guard in Dunnes Store – in a supermarket chain I’m not going to mention…. I’m not even joking,” he added blankly.

Clearly still scarred from the episode, Mark looked unimpressed as his bandmates hysterically laughed at his close encounter with the law.
