Jonathan Rhys Meyers' gay rights movie gets the go ahead

Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ gay rights drama Stonewall has landed a US distributor.

Roadside Attractions has acquired the American rights to the Roland Emmrich direcrted flick which co-stars Jeremy Irvine, Ron Pearlman and Jonny Beauchamp.

Stonewall tells the story of the famous police raid that took place at the Stonewall Inn in New York City in 1969 that kickstarted the gay rights movement.

Future hit: Jonathan’s new movie has secured an American distributor

The drama follows Danny – played by Jeremy – who is kicked out of his home and flees to New York where he is introduced to the men who frequent the Stonewall Inn.

Jonathan co-stars as Trevor, one of the young men that Danny meets during his visits to the bar.

“I was always interested and passionate about telling this important story, but I feel it has never been more timely than right now.” director Roland said.

Roadside Attractions’ Co-President Howard Cohen said of the film: “Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall is an explosive, dramatic story set against one of the monumental events of the 20th century. Roadside is so proud to bring this stirring film to audiences.”

Jonathan has kept busy lately after the actor jetted to Morocco last month with girlfriend Mara Lane to film another movie, Damascus Cover.
