John Carney is in talks to direct Hollywood stars Will Ferrell and Josh Gad in new film Russ & Roger Go Beyond.
According to Deadline.com, the director is set to take a break from a streak musical-themed films including Once and most recently Sing Street and take on a new and exciting film project.
The film will tell the story of how ‘sexploitation’ director Russ Meyer (Will Ferrell) and film critic Roger Ebert (Josh Gad) teamed up to make 1970’s Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

While other directors were in talks to direct the film, including Ben Stiller, John Carney is tipped to take on the task.
The script for the film has been written by Emmy winning Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons scribe Christopher Cluess.
