Hector O'hEochagain opens up about the tragic death of his mum

Hector O’hEochagain has opened up about the tragic death of his mother who passed away the day he was guest hosting The Anton Savage Show in January.

The radio star was very close with his mother and admitted he’ll miss everything about her – including the arguments.

“I’ll miss the phone calls, I’ll miss the stubborn arguments, I’ll miss the giving out, I’ll miss her cooking, I’ll miss her driving her Renault Clio, I’ll miss the way she spoke to the kids, I’ll miss the phone calls of her giving out,” he said.

The presenter revealed he was told the news by his brother, the week he was meant to be working on Today FM.

“I got off air at 12 O’clock, and my brother couldn’t find the key to get into the house, and he rang me,” he said.

“And I didn’t get a text off my mother, who was my biggest fan by the way, she was the Chairman and the President of the Navan Hector Fan Club and she was so proud of what I was doing.”

“Because I didn’t get a text off her on the radio, I felt something was up. And low and behold, at half two that afternoon, we found my Mum and she had passed away in her sleep,” he told The Anton Savage Show on Today FM.

Memories: Hector will miss everything about his mum

Hector admitted he almost forgot to previously pick his kids up from school because he was so lost in thought about his mum.

The thing I found strange was the following week, when I was driving the car, and I didn’t really care what turn I took, I didn’t even know I went to collect the kids from school,” he said.

“I didn’t even remember the journey’.  ‘And someone had warned me of that, be careful when you’re driving, cause you’ll be a million miles away.”
