Long time friend Gay Byrne has opened up about Imelda May’s shocking marriage split.
The RTE legend has admitted he was just as shocked as anyone else when Imelda revealed she and husband Darren were splitting after thirteen years.
“I’m amazed because Imelda was with Darrel so long,” he said.
“I thought they had everything sorted out and this really is out of the blue,” he told the Irish Sun.
Speaking about Imelda’s faith, Gay said she will turn to her religion to help her get through the split.
“Imelda is quite religious and would stop off at a church to pray,” he explained.
“Her mother and father are quite religious too and beautiful people.”
“It’s this deep Catholic faith Imelda has which means she will take the end of her marriage very seriously.
“It will be the same for her parents who I’m sure will be devastated by this,” he added.
