WATCH: Darren Kennedy delivers passionate speech on cause close to his heart

Darren Kennedy has posted a passionate video online demanding better protection for families with surrogate children.

The TV star took to his YouTube account to discuss the hot button issue that affects countless families around the world.

“If they’re born via surrogate, Irish law does not recognise those kids,” he said.

“In the Irish legal situation, those kids have no rights. Those families are not protected.

“Given that we’ve just celebrated 100 years of  this state, last May we gave equal marriage rights which is amazing, but the one thing we’re not doing to protect the family is surrogacy,” he explained.

Having previously made a documentary on surrogacy called Gay Daddy, Darren demanded the laws to be changed.

“There are families raising kids, but those kids are left in a place of insecurity should anything happen to their parents who in law may not be their legal guardians,” he said.

“It’s something that’s very close to my heart. I think people should be able to have kids via surrogate if they wish.

“The laws are a little bit archaic, I think it is. I think it’s one topic we really need to address,” he added.
