Tom Selleck has revealed what starring on Friends was REALLY like.
The 79-year-old actor starred in 10 episodes of the popular sitcom from 1996 to 2000.
He played Dr. Richard Burke, Monica Geller’s romantic interest.
The on-screen couple struck up a relationship, initially viewed as controversial in the group due to Richard’s age and his friendship with Monica’s dad.
The group grew to love and respect Richard; however, the pair sadly split due to their differences about wanting children.
The Emmy Award winner told Parade Magazine: “People talk to me about my role on ‘Friends’ all the time. It was a lovely experience, something I didn’t see coming.”
He revealed that parts of the show were improvised and said that the showrunners loved his performance so much that they asked him to return for subsequent appearances.
“[The showrunners] just explained this idea and you had to make a leap of faith. They didn’t have a script or anything,” he said.
Tom continued: “I remember I was supposed to do three shows, and on the third show, at the table read, somebody said, ‘Oh, that’s right, this is your last show. I wish you could come back.'”
“I said, ‘Well, nobody asked me.’ So that turned into ten shows.”
In response to whether he would be open to doing another comedy, he said: “I would love to do another comedy, the right kind of comedy.”
“Friends made people laugh and cry at times. That’s the kind of comedy I enjoy doing. Three Men and a Baby had that, too.”
Tom joined the cast of friends in 2021 for the reunion special.
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt Le Blanc, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry reunited for a HBO Max special entitled ‘The One Where They Get Back Together.’
He added a little extra humour to his presence by asking the cast what Chandler’s role was, which gave Jennifer another opportunity to exclaim, “Transponster!”
