The New Girl cast spoke about a reunion as they shot a cover for PEOPLE Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive issue.
Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. got together for a fun photoshoot as they discussed their iconic series earlier this week.
The sitcom followed the life of Jess Day, played by Zooey Deschanel, who, after finding out her boyfriend cheated on her, moves into a loft with three men her age, Nick played by Jake Johnson, Schmidt played by Max Greenfield, and Winston, played by Lamorne Morris.
Speaking with PEOPLE Magazine, the group discussed the possibility of a revival of New Girl.
Poking fun at Lamorne’s recent Emmy win, joking he’s the reason it hasn’t happened due to his ‘Emmy clause,’ the group stated it would be up to the series creator Elizabeth Meriweather.
However, despite the decision ultimately being out of their hands, they expressed that they are open to the idea.

Jake Johnson joked: “You want the facts? Lamorne won’t do it after his Emmy. He’s got an Emmy clause. That’s real talk. He’s gonna spin it right now but that’s real.”
Lamorne replied: “I look at it like reparations, what I’m due, you know what I’m saying? Hard work. You know what I’m saying? Now, it’s time to pay the piper.”
Jake explained: “So Fox was ready, we were ready. Damon was back and [Lamorne] did that speech.”
Lamorne joked responding: “A couple more commas, few more zeros. You know what I’m saying? Then, we in business. We’re back in business, baby.”

However, Larmone expressed that he has always been very open to the idea: “No, to be quite honest with you, from day one, I’ve been the one saying that I want it to happen. They don’t even respond in the text when I put it in there.
Jake stated: “Here’s the reality. This dude’s an idiot. He spent his entire Emmy campaign dragging me, and then we were laughing. None of us have any power about a reunion. But I think we all would if the right thing came, it’s really fun to be together.”
Max chimed into the conversation, stating it untimely wouldn’t be up to them: “‘We get asked so many questions about the show and ‘What about a reunion?’ And none of it is up to us.”

“It’s so much about Liz Meriwether who created the show and what she would do differently and how she would direct the show and if she would want to do a reunion. So I think it’s her decision and how she would want to move forward,” Max continued.
Damon Wayans, who played Coach, the character who Larmone replaces in the second episode, said: “I think Liz is very funny, and I think if she did bring it back, it would be great.”
The cast explained they regularly keep in contact but that it has been a while since the four of them have been together: “We text each other a lot, so we’ve in each other’s life a lot, but it’s been a while since the four of us have been together.”
