Mattel is being sued for mistakingly printing a link to a porn website on Wicked doll packaging.
Last month, people began sharing online that the dolls for the upcoming movie musical had a link to wicked.com instead of wickedmovie.com on the packaging.
The company, known for creating Barbie dolls, has ensured that it is taking “immediate action” to fix the mistake.
According to court documents, a South Carolina resident is filing a class action lawsuit after purchasing the toy for her young daughter.
The plaintiff alleged her young daughter visited the X-rated website that had been mistakingly printed and “had nothing to do with the Wicked” franchise.
The mother also alleged that Mattel did not offer a refund and believes she and her child suffered “emotional distress.”
“These scenes were hardcore, full on nude pornographic images depicting actual intercourse,” the lawsuit read.
“Plaintiff’s minor daughter immediately showed her mother the photographs and both were horrified by what they saw. If plaintiff had been aware of such an inappropriate defect in the product, she would not have purchased it.”
Mattel declined to comment on pending lawsuit but provided a statement about the product, saying: “The Wicked Dolls have returned for sale with correct packaging at retailers online and in stores to meet the strong consumer demand for the products.”
“The previous misprint on the packaging in no way impacts the value or play experience provided by the product itself in the limited number of units sold before the correction.”
The mistake affected dolls sold in Target, Kohls and Amazon, but not other retailers.
The toy is no longer available on Amazon and has been removed from shelves.
Wicked is the prequel to The Wizard of Oz which sees Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) slowly become the wicked witch as she seeks to expose the fraudulent, corrupt Wizard who rules the land with Ariana Grande playing Glinda the Good Witch.
The film’s second instalment is set to arrive on December 25, 2025.
