Kieran Culkin confesses he didn’t know his brother Macaulay was the star of Home Alone until the premiere

Kieran Culkin has confessed he didn’t know his brother Macaulay Culkin was the star of Home Alone until the premiere.

Despite playing a minor role in the family comedy as Kevin’s cousin Fuller, Kieran was not aware of his sibling’s lead role as Kevin McCallister.

While promoting his latest project, the Succession star told the LA Times: “Devin Ratray, the guy who plays Buzz, lied to me and told me the movie was all about him.”

He recalled: “I had no idea what that movie was about when I saw it, and I was in it. I was at the premiere, and I was dying laughing. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen. I had no idea what the movie was about.”

Thinking back, Kieran said: “And then when I saw it, the movie’s cracking me up, and I go, ‘Mac was on set all the time. That makes sense the movie would be about him.'”

According to the younger Culkin, he was instructed to “drink this Coke, wear the glasses, say the something you memorised, look cute, and go home.”

Regarding his experience on the Home Alone set, Kiernan recalled to James Corden in 2020: “I had fun doing it, but I really didn’t know what it was about.”

At the time of filming, Kieran, now 44, was nine years old, and the star Macaulay, now an Emmy winner, was six.

He recently revealed he decided to forbid his young children, son Wilder, age three, and daughter Kinsey, age five, from watching Home Alone.

During The Gothams 34th Annual Film Awards earlier this week, Kieran told E! News: “There are still some scary parts.”

“For the three-year-old, there’s the tarantula [and] there’s the guy at the end who said: ‘I’m gonna bite off all your fingers.’ That’s scary for a three-year-old,” the protective father noted.

Regarding himself and his spouse, Jazz Charton, he continued: “We think they might be ready for Home Alone this year. If not, next year.”
