Justin Timberlake is scheduled to enter a new plea in his DWI case, US prosecutors have reported.
A source told AP that Justin has agreed to plead guilty to a lesser offence than the original charge of drunk driving.
Details of the plea deal were not disclosed at the time.
The pop singer is set to appear in person on Friday in Sag Harbor Village Court to enter a plea, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney’s office confirmed.
The 43-year-old was detained by the police in July in Sag Harbor in the Hamptons and appeared in court the following afternoon after he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
A source told the Daily Mail that the singer had been out for dinner with friends and was pulled over shortly after leaving the group around midnight.
The source said: “Justin was out to dinner with friends, and there were cop cars stationed outside the restaurant, as if they were most nights.”
They look for people who are leaving after midnight who might have been drinking.”
“Justin left at 12:30AM and was pulled over as soon as he left. Nobody was hurt and there was no drama at the scene.”
The 43-year-old was arraigned on Tuesday, June 18, and released without bail.
Justin was charged with one count of driving while intoxicated.
“The charge was a single count because he refused the breath test,” his lawyer told Us Weekly.
Following his release, the attorney for the singer, Edward Burke Jr, has asked a judge to dismiss drunk driving charges against him, saying his client was “not intoxicated.”
Judge Carl Irace agreed to review a motion filed by Timberlake’s attorney, which sought to dismiss the case.
Edward Burke Jr alleged the complaint filed by the arresting officer was defective.
He told the court: “The police made a number of very significant errors in this case.”
“The most important fact to know about this case is that Justin was not intoxicated and should not have been arrested.”
