Dick Van Dyke reveals he is safe from devastating Californian wildfires

Dick Van Dyke has revealed he is safe from the Californian wildfires which are devastating the area of Malibu.

“The Franklin Fire,” as it has been called by US authorities, began on Monday evening – “forcing the evacuation of most of Malibu.”

However, the 98-year-old, who lives in the area, has confirmed “safely evacuated” his Malibu home.

Taking to his Facebook, Dick Van Dyke told his fans that he and his wife Arlene Silver along with their pets are safe.

He wrote: “Arlene and I have safely evacuated with our animals except for Bobo escaped as we were leaving”

“We’re praying he’ll be ok and that our community in Serra Retreat will survive these terrible fires.”

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection confirmed the fire has burned more than 2,700 acres as high winds continued to fuel it – however, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

This comes as the Mary Poppins star is set to turn 99 this Friday.

The National Weather Service’s office for Los Angeles issued a red-flag weather warning of a “particularly dangerous situation” with “very extreme fire danger.”

Most of Malibu has no power due to the risk of wildfires.

In a statement about the blaze, Governor Newsom said: “Fire officials and first responders are working relentlessly to protect lives and property from The Franklin Fire.

“California is grateful for this federal support, which bolsters these efforts. I urge all residents in affected areas to stay alert and follow evacuation orders.”
