Country star Morgan Wallen pleads guilty to reckless endangerment

Country star Morgan Wallen has pleaded guilty to two misdemeanour counts of reckless endangerment.

The country singer had thrown a chair from a six-storey bar in Nashville, nearly hitting to police officers.

Morgan, who went to court with his attorney, was given a two-year sentence of supervised probation and seven days in a DUI (driving under the influence) education centre.

When asked how he would plead by Judge Cynthia Chappell, Morgan replied: “Conditionally guilty.”

The arrest affidavit stated that Morgan was accused of hurling a chair from Chief’s bar’s roof on 7 April.

The officers checked security footage and spoke with witnesses after the chair fell approximately a metre away.

Witnesses told officers that the singer laughingly picked up a chair and threw it off the roof.

Shortly after the incident, Morgan issued a statement in which he stated he accepted “responsibility” and was “not proud” of his actions.

While his statement mentioned making “amends” and contacting law enforcement, he did not issue an apology.

The musician was first accused of one misdemeanour offence of disorderly behaviour and three felonies of reckless endangerment.

In a statement, Worrick Robinson, Wallen’s lawyer, said that the singer “has co-operated fully with authorities throughout these last eight months, directly communicating and apologising to all involved.”

“Upon the successful completion of his probation, the charges will be eligible for dismissal and expungement.”

After the short 10-minute hearing ended on Thursday, Morgan remained silent, and several security personnel swiftly led him away.
