Ariana Grande has broken her silence on her first ever Oscar nomination.
The actress and singer has been nominated in the Supporting Actress category for her role as Glinda in Wicked ahead of the 97th Academy Awards.
Taking to Instagram after the nominees were announced today, Ariana wrote: “Picking my head up in between sobs to say thank you so much to @theacademy for this unfathomable recognition. i cannot stop crying, to no one’s surprise.”
“I’m humbled and deeply honored to be in such brilliant company and sharing this with tiny ari who sat and studied Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow just before the big, beautiful bubble entered. i’m so proud of you, tiny.
“Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for this acknowledgement @theacademy,” she continued.
“Thank you @jonmchu for taking this chance on me and for being the most unbelievably brilliant leader, human being, and most fierce friend. i am so deeply proud of my beautiful Wicked family.”
“I am so proud of my Elphie, my sister, my dear @cynthiaerivo. your brilliance is never ending and you deserve every flower (tulip) in every garden. i love you unconditionally, always.
“I don’t quite have all my words yet, i’m still trying to breathe. but thank you. oh my goodness, thank you. Universal, Marc, my family, my heart,” she wrote, before adding: “lemons and melons and pears, oh my.”
Ariana’s co-star Cynthia Erivo was also nominated in the Lead Actress category for her role as Elphaba in Wicked.
The film is based on Gregory Maguire’s best-selling novel and hit Broadway musical, which debuted starring Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda and Idina Menzel as Elphaba.
The hit movie-musical became a phenomenon online and is now sweeping the awards season nominations.
It also received an impressive six more nominations for Makeup and Hairstyling, Costume Design, Best Original Score, Film Editing, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.
Wicked is the prequel to The Wizard of Oz which sees Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) cast as the wicked witch as she seeks to expose the fraudulent, corrupt Wizard who rules the land.
Ariana plays Glinda the Good Witch, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.
The popstar received her first acting award show nomination last month when she, alongside Cynthia, was recognised for her performance.
The full list of nominees for the 97th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday afternoon (Irish time).
Despite fears the Oscars wouldn’t go ahead due to the devastating wildfires, the ceremony is still set for Sunday, March 2nd, at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.
This year’s ceremony will be hosted for the first time ever by Conan O’Brien, following in the footsteps of previous hosts Jimmy Kimmel, Chris Rock Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes, to name a few.
