'X Factor is not a good route to go down if you want a real career': Melanie McCabe SLAMS the show that made her a star

Melanie McCabe has revealed she doesn’t think going on The X Factor is a good way for aspiring singers to have a real career.

The Dublin singer tried out for the ITV series four times but was sent packing before the live shows on every try.

However, Melanie told Goss.ie she doesn’t think the reality competition is a “good route” for those looking for a successful career.

“I’d say if they want a platform for themselves, it’s a really good platform. But it’s not good for longevity in a career, if you really want a serious career, I don’t think it’s a good route,” she said.

Career focused: Melanie thinks The X Factor is only good if you want fame

“But if you want to just put yourself out there and get a name for yourself  it’s good for that because that’s how I kind of did it.”

The 21-year-old also revealed she is glad she didn’t win the show because she would have been stuck with the label forever.

“I think as well with X Factor it’s a different type of fame. You’ll always be known as The X Factor winner, it’s good to just get your name out there and then build your own career then and do your own thing.”

Meanwhile, Melanie is busy trying to launch her solo career with her debut album due out in the next few months.

“I’ll definitely be going on tour, we’re doing the national concert hall on the 5th of April so there’s a good few bits coming up,” she said.

The former X Factor star has high hopes for the future and told Goss.ie she dreams of collaborating with some of Ireland’s biggest music starts.

“I’d love to work with Gavin James, he’s an unreal singer. I’d love to do something with the Script as well, that would be amazing.”
