VIPIRELAND.COM

Rumours are rife that TV3 may have poached a top RTÉ boss as its new Director of Content.

The broadcaster has sparked speculation that they are set to pluck Bill Malone from RTÉ, who acts as the Channel Controller for RTÉ2.

According to the Herald, the 46-year-old has been linked to Lynda McQuaid’s former job – and the role could see him overseeing programmes on both TV3 and UTV Ireland.

A source said, “This could be a big move, as there’s massive investment going into TV3 from Virgin Media.

“He has so much experience and he would be bringing all that talent and background knowledge to TV3. He would be a huge asset for the organisation.”

Bill has acted as Channel Controller for RTÉ2 since March 2013, and been involved in the success of a number of popular RTÉ shows including First Dates Ireland, Mrs Brown’s Boys, The Voice of Ireland and Prime Time.

The Waterford native has also previously produced the Late Late Show.

According to the Herald, both RTÉ and TV3 declined to comment.
